This is a creative secondary school business activity where students will work in small teams to invent and promote a fictitious product. Using this fictitious product, students will write a marketing plan report and deliver a product presentation to their classmates.<br />
This product is designed to achieve Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 Introduction to Business, Marketing, and Information Technology programs.</p>
<p><strong>Instructor Information:</strong><br />
The assignment can be used as a course culminating task for a marketing course or it can be condensed and used as a small assignment for other courses. The presentation component can be omitted to make the project more brief.</p>
<p><strong>Ontario Curriculum Connections</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>describe current marketing activities that target various market segments (e.g., youth, baby boomers, Generation X, seniors).</li>
<li>summarize the factors that motivate a customer to purchase a product (e.g., discretionary income, peer pressure, social responsibility, evolving needs and wants);</li>
<li>explain how marketing (e.g., branding, promotion, packaging, online sales) affects competition among products</li>
<li>identify the pricing strategies and policies used to promote the sale of products (e.g., skimming, market penetration, loss leader, supersizing, combo pricing, discount pricing, volume discounts).</li>
<li>identify the channels of distribution for a variety of products in a variety of markets (e.g., direct, indirect, integrated, and specialty channels);</li>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This assignment allows students to learn what it is like to act as a Human Resource professional by learning about the considerations associated with employee training and development.</p>
<p>Using the slideshow provided, students will learn about considerations as well as the process of performing a Task Analysis. Students will be required to have a conversation with an individual employed in their chosen career to gather information to complete this assignment. Though it can be modified to have an online research component instead.</p>
<p>Topics covered in this resource include: training vs. development, performance management, benefits of performance management, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, six steps of a task analysis, job descriptions, and employee motivational theories.</p>
