It includes an <ins>editable</ins> Google Slides presentation and a printable student workbook designed to introduce, practise and apply key concepts from the Ontario Visual Arts Curriculum.

The activities build progressively across the primary grades and can be completed directly on the workbook pages using pencils, pencil crayons or markers. The workbook gives students opportunities to identify, trace, draw, colour, shade and create using each element of design.

Each element of design can be covered using this resource in 1-2 days. They can be stretched longer or shorter, depending on if you use every workbook page or not. You can pick and choose as it suits your learners.

The editable Google Slides presentation provides clear explanations, visual examples and discussion prompts for whole-class instruction.
This resource is intentionally workbook-based. It is designed to provide an accessible introduction to the elements of design, especially in classrooms with limited time, space or art supplies. The workbook is not intended to replace open-ended art making. Instead, it helps students build foundational vocabulary, practise specific techniques and develop confidence before applying their learning to larger art projects. Teachers can extend the concepts with painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, mixed-media projects or other creative activities whenever time and materials allow.

Students will also complete a school research page, where they gather key information such as school programs, teams, clubs, and important details about their future high school.

To reflect on this important transition, students will complete a “Looking Ahead” reflection. In this section, they will share their thoughts, feelings, goals, and questions about starting high school.

This project encourages creativity, research skills, and personal reflection, while helping students feel more prepared and excited for the next stage of their education.

Bring your drama lessons to life with this collaborative, performance-based assignment that challenges students to communicate a story without saying a single word! Perfect for middle and high school drama classes, this activity builds acting skills, teamwork, creativity, and expressive body language.

How it works:
Students work in groups of 2–3 to create and perform a 1–2 minute silent scene using only body language, movement, facial expressions, and space to tell a story or convey a clear emotion. Without any dialogue, their audience should still understand the message from the performance alone.

Skills students will develop:

Non-Verbal Communication – mastering gestures, facial expressions, and movement to express meaning

Collaboration – working together to plan, rehearse, and refine a performance

Creativity & Critical Thinking – finding innovative ways to communicate a story without words

Performance Skills – engaging an audience through energy, expression, and physical storytelling

This workbook covers the Living in Communion strand in the Grade 8 Catholic Religion curriculum for Ontario schools.

This workbook helps students understand how being part of the Church community nurtures their faith and calls them to witness to the reign of God through active participation, prayer, and service. Students will explore how the Church supports their spiritual journey and invites them to live as signs of God’s love in the world.

Rooted in curriculum expectations, this resource highlights the vital role of the Holy Spirit in guiding the Church through the communion of saints. Students will learn how holy men and women continue to teach, inspire, and pray for the Church today. By exploring their stories and legacy, students are invited to see themselves as part of this living communion, called to holiness in their own lives.
