This project is intended as a culminating task for Grade 6 Social Studies – Heritage and Identity: Communities in Canada, Past and Present (New 2023 Curriculum).
Students will research features of the Canadian identity and design a cereal box to celebrate Canada. Their design will include elements that represent built features (e.g. parliament buildings, memorials, parks), natural features (e.g. climate, landscape, wildlife), cultural traditions, economic bases (e.g. mining, logging, fishing), ethnic and/or religious groups, and societal values (e.g. peace, inclusivity, multiculturalism)
Students will design a draft of their cereal box and use that draft to create a real cereal box. Empty, recycled cereal boxes can be used for the final product.
For research, students can use notes that they took during the unit, their social studies textbook, other non-fiction texts, or online sources.
