This project is intended as a culminating task for Grade 3 Social Studies – Communities in Canada, 1780-1850, aligned with the new 2023 Ontario Social Studies curriculum.
Students will research an early community (Early Settlers, Anishinaabe, Mi’kmaq, Métis, Cree, Haudenosaunee, or Inuit) and decorate a quilt. Their quilt will include a design that represents the daily life, home, clothing, food, work, and transportation of their chosen group.
Two versions of this project are included:
- Students can design a full quilt (Design a Quilt Template) with multiple squares.
- Students can design a quilt square (Design a Quilt Square Template), which can be displayed on a bulletin board with all students’ squares connected together to make a collaborative class quilt.
