Bring creativity, balance, and fun into your art room in October with this Halloween Symmetry and Space Art Project! Made for Grades 3–6, this hands-on activity helps students explore symmetry, positive and negative space, and balance while creating Halloween-themed artwork. With clear instructions, student-friendly slides, and easy prep for teachers, this project connects directly to Ontario (Canada) Visual Arts curriculum expectations, and makes for a perfect bulletin board display!
In this project, students learn that symmetry means both sides of an artwork are the same, like a mirror image. They also explore space in art, which are the positive areas (the main shapes) and the negative areas (the background around them).
