This workbook covers the Human Development and Sexual Health unit in the Grade 8 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).
In this workbook, students will explore human development topics such as relationships and intimacy, healthy communication, and the benefits of healthy relationships. They will learn about consent, refusal skills, and assertiveness. The workbook covers self-concept, personal values, and the influence of religious, cultural, and media teachings on relationships.
Students will delve into sexual health, including abstinence, delaying sexual activity, contraceptives, and prevention of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs). Additional topics include gender identity, sexual orientation, and the impact of sexually explicit media. The workbook also provides information on sexual health support services.
There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A unit test is included at the end of the workbook.
