In this workbook, students will explore life in Canada from 1780 to 1850, focusing on Indigenous communities and early settlers. It covers six Indigenous groups (Anishinaabe, Inuit, Mi’kmaq, Métis, Cree, Haudenosaunee), including their cultures, homes, and daily life. The workbook also delves into the experiences of early settlers (Early French Canadians, Scottish settlers, and Black settlers) and their daily life.
Students will learn about treaties made during 1780 to 1850 and wampum belts, and the first residential school opened in Canada in 1831. They will examine how the 1780 to 1850 time period influenced identities in Canada and compare past and present life.
There is a variety of readings, long and short answer questions, creative writing activities, and drawing prompts included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A quiz is included at the end of the workbook.
