This workbook covers the Personal Safety and Injury Prevention unit in the Grade 5 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).
In this workbook, students will learn about personal safety, focusing on conflict resolution, managing threatening situations, and effective safety strategies. They will explore the fight, flight, or freeze response and develop communication skills, assertiveness, and refusal skills.
The workbook also includes coping strategies, understanding self-concept, and identifying supportive people and resources, such as Kids Help Phone and emergency services. Additionally, students will learn about internet safety, including how to handle cyberbullying and make safe choices online.
There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A unit test is included at the end of the workbook.
