This project is intended as a culminating task for Grade 8 History – Creating Canada, 1850–1890.
In this task, students will make a political cartoon to creatively illustrate and narrate a significant historical event that shaped Canada during the period of 1850–1890.
A political cartoon uses humour, exaggeration, and symbolism to convey a message about events, political issues, or social situations. These cartoons feature political figure caricatures (characters with exaggerated features), symbols, or ideas to provoke thought and discussion.
For research, students can use notes that they took during the unit, their history textbook, other non-fiction texts, or online sources.
