This workbook covers the Substance Use, Addictions, and Related Behaviours unit in the Grade 5 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).
In this workbook, students will learn about substance use, focusing on alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine. They will explore the concept of intoxication, the factors affecting it, and the short-term and long-term effects of alcohol. The workbook covers the dangers of drinking and driving, and includes questions and quizzes to reinforce understanding. Students will compare different substances, understand addiction, and examine the influences on substance use.
Additionally, they will learn about smoking and vaping, peer pressure, and develop refusal skills and assertiveness through decision-making scenarios. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions and resist negative influences.
There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
