This Cell Town Diorama Project culminating task for the Cells unit for the Grade 8 Ontario Science curriculum (2022) is so much fun for students!
In small groups, students will creatively represent cell organelles and their functions in a fictional town setting. This project emphasizes the need for comprehensive research to understand the roles each organelle plays in cellular processes, in order to relate it to town structures.
For example, the cell nucleus can be likened to a city hall, serving as the central control centre, while the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus function akin to a transportation network (highways), ensuring the smooth movement of materials within the cell.
