This workbook covers the Personal Safety and Injury Prevention unit in the Grade 8 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).
In this workbook, students will learn about personal safety by exploring various dangerous situations and how to assess and manage risks. They’ll delve into topics like sports injuries, concussions, and protective equipment. The workbook includes real-life case studies like Rowan’s Story to emphasize the importance of safety laws.
Students will also cover infectious diseases, cosmetic procedures, bullying, cyberbullying, and different forms of violence, including relationship, gender-based, and racially-based violence. They’ll learn about reporting incidents, finding support services, and accessing online safety resources, equipping them with the knowledge to stay safe and seek help when needed.
There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A unit test is included at the end of the workbook.
