Substance Use, Addictions, and Related Behaviours Workbook (Grade 6 Health)

This workbook covers the Substance Use, Addictions, and Related Behaviours unit in the Grade 6 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).

In this workbook, students will learn about substance use and its various influences. They will explore topics such as prescription medications, psychoactive drugs, illegal drugs, opioids, depressants, alcohol, stimulants, nicotine, and cannabis.

Students will compare different drugs, conduct substance research, and take a quiz on psychoactive drugs. They will also examine peer pressure, personal values, and the influence of these values on decisions regarding substance use. The workbook emphasizes the importance of abstaining from drugs and includes questions to reinforce learning.

There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.

To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A unit test is included at the end of the workbook.
