This engaging Pumpkin Patch Art Project is a fun fall art lesson designed for Grades 1–3. It is broken down into clear, step-by-step instructions, so it can be taught by any classroom teacher, even if art is not your specialty!
Students will explore geometric and organic shapes as they paint a colourful pumpkin patch using different shades of orange tempera paint. They will create 10 pumpkins in a variety of shapes and sizes, including round, triangular, square, rectangular, bumpy and lopsided pumpkins.
The finished pumpkin artwork makes a bright and creative fall bulletin board display while helping students explore shape, colour, line, composition and creative expression.
This open-ended elementary art project encourages every student to create a unique interpretation. No two pumpkin patches will look the same!

Art Materials Needed:
- White art paper or heavyweight construction paper
- Orange tempera paint in a variety of shades (mix)
- Paintbrushes
- Paint palettes or trays
