Oral storytelling is an ancient tradition of many cultures. It is used as a way to entertain and to pass on knowledge. When retelling a story, it is important students learn to say all the parts in the right order so the listener understands the story.
In this lesson, students will learn about time order words (first, next, then, finally) and use these words to retell a story that has been told to them orally. The story used in this lesson is a Teacher Resource Cabin original story that has been specially written for this lesson to emphasize time-order words and to engage listeners with actions. After listening to the story, students will be able to make their own mini-booklet and retell the story to a partner.
