This workbook covers the Healthy Eating unit in the Grade 7 Ontario Health Curriculum (2019).
In this workbook, students will explore various aspects of healthy eating, beginning with an introduction to nutrition and how to make informed food choices. They will examine the influence of personal preferences, busy schedules, values, cultural background, and cost on their food decisions.
The workbook also covers topics such as food availability, school food policies, and community resources, with specific case studies on Northern groceries and clean drinking water. Students will assess their food choices through quizzes, create personal eating guidelines, and maintain a food journal. Additionally, they will learn about the health impacts of food, including cardiovascular disease, tooth decay, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, allergies, and cancer.
There is a variety of readings, short answer questions, and creative thinking activities included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A unit test is included at the end of the workbook.
