Bring your drama lessons to life with this collaborative, performance-based assignment that challenges students to communicate a story without saying a single word! Perfect for middle and high school drama classes, this activity builds acting skills, teamwork, creativity, and expressive body language.
How it works:
Students work in groups of 2–3 to create and perform a 1–2 minute silent scene using only body language, movement, facial expressions, and space to tell a story or convey a clear emotion. Without any dialogue, their audience should still understand the message from the performance alone.
Skills students will develop:
- Non-Verbal Communication – mastering gestures, facial expressions, and movement to express meaning
- Collaboration – working together to plan, rehearse, and refine a performance
- Creativity & Critical Thinking – finding innovative ways to communicate a story without words
- Performance Skills – engaging an audience through energy, expression, and physical storytelling
