This is the first unit in the Grade 10 Ontario Career Studies (GLC2O) course, for Strand B: Exploring and Preparing for the World of Work. This unit introduces students to current trends in the world of work and helps them reflect on how their own skills, values, and interests connect to future opportunities. Students explore how transferable skills developed through school, community involvement, and life experiences prepare them for a changing job market. They examine the impact of technology, social trends, and globalization on the nature of work, workers’ rights, and career possibilities.
The unit also supports students in researching postsecondary options and identifying educational pathways that align with their personal goals. As they learn about the importance of online presence, networking, and self-awareness, students build the tools needed to make informed, confident decisions about their future.
This unit has a variety of assessment tools such as daily workbook tasks, group and class discussions, and an optional culminating project (available separately here: Career Research Project).
