This is the first unit in the Grade 10 Ontario Career Studies (GLC2O) course, for Strand C: Planning and Financial Management to Help MeetPostsecondary Goals. This unit equips students with the practical planning and financial skills needed to pursue their postsecondary goals with confidence. Students explore how their interests, strengths, and aspirations align with specific postsecondary pathways, and develop clear plans to help them navigate future opportunities and challenges. They also learn how to communicate their skills and achievements effectively to different audiences.
Financial literacy is a major focus of this unit, as students investigate the fundamentals of saving, borrowing, and budgeting. Through research and applied tasks, they develop a personal budget and consider how to make responsible financial decisions that support their transition into postsecondary education, training, or work.
This unit has a variety of assessment tools such as daily workbook tasks, group and class discussions, and an optional culminating project (available separately here: Postsecondary Budget Project).
