In this Love Letter to an Inanimate Object assignment, Grade 7/8 students will choose an object that holds personal meaning and write a heartfelt love letter using descriptive language and literary devices (metaphor, simile, personification). This resource is perfect for developing creative writing skills while meeting curriculum expectations.
Once students have completed the good copy of their love letter, they will add a creative and personal touch to their final product! On a separate blank piece of paper, students will draw a detailed illustration of their chosen inanimate object (i.e. the “object of their affection”!) This drawing will serve as a decorative page topper for their love letter. These love letters can be put together to create a great bulletin board for Valentine’s Day!
