This Grade 2 and 3 Recount Writing Unit is designed to be completed over the course of about 12 lessons. This unit is flexible, with many options for students to write about for their recount. Expectations are given for the NEW 2023 Ontario Language Curriculum.
In a culturally responsive classroom, teachers must recognize that not every student has had the same experiences to reflect on in their writing (e.g. “Write about a day you went to an amusement park” or “Write about a time you went fishing” will not be possible for all students in your classroom). This unit is structured to include a variety of activities and resources that cater to different learning styles and experiences, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for all students.
Options for in-person and virtual learning are included. In-person teachers may choose to use the “Try it!” slides to model a task in front of students during a lesson, then have the students complete the task on the printable pages.
