This is the first unit in the Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship (CHV2O) course, for Strand C: Civic Engagement, Service, and Action.
This unit introduces students to the concept of civic engagement, emphasizing how individuals and groups contribute to their communities and promote the common good. Through political inquiry, students explore how Canadians have demonstrated civic responsibility through leadership, participation, and meaningful action. They learn to analyze civic issues from multiple perspectives, consider the importance of inclusion, representation, and access to information, and communicate their ideas effectively. The unit also encourages students to see themselves as active citizens capable of creating positive change through informed and responsible action.
This unit has a variety of assessment tools such as daily workbook tasks, group and class discussions, a unit test with reflection, and an optional culminating project.
