This is the first unit in the Grade 9 Ontario Exploring Canadian Geography (CGC1W) course, for Strand A: Geographic Inquiry and Skill Development.
This unit introduces students to geographic thinking and the skills needed to investigate land, resources, and communities. Students will learn how to ask meaningful geographic questions, gather information from diverse sources, and evaluate the reliability of what they find. They will develop their ability to interpret maps, graphs, and geospatial tools to organize, analyze, and communicate data. Throughout the unit, students will explore how geographic inquiry connects to real-world issues, current events, and careers involving geography and geospatial technologies.
This unit has a variety of assessment tools such as daily workbook tasks, group and class discussions, and an optional culminating project (available separately here).
