This is the second unit in the Grade 9 Ontario Exploring Canadian Geography (CGC1W) course, for Strand B: Physical Geography and Physical Processes in Canada.
In this unit, through the lens of physical geography, students will learn how natural systems shape Canada’s climate, landforms, and environments. Students will explore how air masses, ocean currents, tectonic activity, and weather patterns influence daily life and long-term change. They will examine the distribution, frequency, and impacts of natural events such as wildfires, floods, ice storms, and coastal hazards. Students will also learn how global processes connect to Canada and how landscapes influence identity. Throughout the unit, students will develop skills in interpreting maps, satellite images, climate data, and geographic patterns, and discover how physical geography helps explain real-world events in Canada and around the world.
This unit has a variety of assessment tools such as daily workbook tasks, group and class discussions, and an optional culminating project, recommended to do after the third unit in this course (available separately here: Canadian Natural Resources Project – Includes Google Slides™ (Grade 9 CGC1W)).
